The Fish & The Waters

Villa Marinotti Fly Fishing Lodge is the meeting point for all fly fishers that head for the Dolomites waters. There are many rivers that can be fished like the famous Piave, the Boite river, the Ansei river and many other smaller tributaries. There are some alpine lakes like Misurina Lake which can be fished from the boat or from belly boat! We have here great pike lakes too, like the Centro Cadore lake where, some years ago, the IGFA world pike record on the fly has been made. This lake is only a 5 minutes drive from the Lodge.

The north of Italy is the best place in the world where you can find a marble trout! This trout is the top predator in the Piave river: it's an elusive fish, not easy to catch, which requires experience and a good knowledge of the waters where they live. Big marble cannnot be caught on just about any section of the river. Best would be to target these fish specifically...like hunting! Doing this, often means catching less, however the ones you catch will certainly be photo-worthy!

Brown trout are our most common trout. You can find them everywhere; from the small creek to the large Piave river, to it's lower section. If you like to fish dry in small waters, they give you lot of fun!

There are hybrid trout too, which are a mix between marble trout and brown trout, and behave mostly like a marble trout.

Graylings are not so common, but still catchable if your guide knows where they are.

The same for brook trout. There are a few smaller creeks and an alpine lake where you can find them.

In our rivers there are some wild rainbow trout too, but they are not easy to be found.

Fishing season
Most of the dolomitic river fishing opens at the beginning of March and remain fishable through to the end of October. There is one trout river which will be fishable from the second half of February till end of November.
Pike fishing (depending which lake) goes from April till the end of December.

All lakes are fishable with Belly Boat or with one of our 4 meters Neptvn boat, equipped with electrical engine.
